Studying Measurement Invariance Using Confirmatory Factor Analysis

چکیده
For any such use of scale scores, there is a critical assumption that the scale is measuring the same trait in all of the groups. If that assumption holds, then comparisons and analyses of those scores are acceptable and yield meaningful interpretations. But if that assumption is not true, then such comparisons and analyses do not yield meaningful results. This is the general issue of (MI). measurement invariance

On The Factor Structure invariance of the PhD UEE Using Multigroup Confirmatory Factor Analysis
The aim of the current study was twofold: (1) to validate the internal structure of the general English (GE) section of the university entrance examination for Ph.D applicants into the English programs at state universities in Iran (Ph.D. UEE), and (2) to examine the factor structure invariance of the Ph.D. UEE across two proficiency levels. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyz...
متن کاملMeasurement invariance of the strength of motivation for medical school: a multi-group confirmatory factor analysis
BACKGROUND The Strength of Motivation for Medical School-Revised (SMMS-R) questionnaire measures students' motivation for studying medicine. It includes three subscales: 'willingness to sacrifice', 'readiness to start', and 'persistence'. Measurement invariance is a prerequisite for group comparisons. The objectives of this study were to verify the factorial structure of the SMMS-R questionnair...
متن کاملEstablishing Factorial Invariance for Multiple-Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis
What is factorial invariance? When conducting multiple-group confirmatory factor analysis, one should establish factorial invariance. If a researcher establishes factorial invariance, then he or she is measuring the same construct across groups or across time. Factorial invariance is assumed when making a comparison between groups or between time points. When doing multiple-group confirmatory f...
متن کاملProblems of Item Parceling with CFA Tests of Measurement Invariance
Combining items into parcels in confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) can improve model estimation and fit. Because adequate model fit is imperative for CFA tests of measurement invariance, parcels have frequently been used. However, the use of parcels as indicators in a CFA model can have detrimental effects on tests of measurement invariance of factor loadings. Using simulated data with a known ...
متن کاملMulti-Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis for Testing Measurement Invariance in Mixed Item Format Data
This simulation study investigated the empirical Type I error rates of using the maximum likelihood estimation method and Pearson covariance matrix for multi-group confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) of full and strong measurement invariance hypotheses with mixed item format data that are ordinal in nature. The results indicate that mixed item formats and sample size combinations do not result...
